My latest paper has been published in Rethinking History. In Un-disabling the King: Richard III and the ‘New Evidence’ I examined one of the major distortions of information surrounding Richard III in the period in which his grave was discovered, undertaken in a popular history format and disseminated by the press. The attempt to brand Richard III as a ‘hard drinker and a big eater’ didn’t stick, but the proposal that Richard III was ‘certainly not disabled’ has had a more insidious and lasting impact than it might first appear.
