My latest paper has been published in Axon: Creative Explorations, in a wonderful issue on ‘Connections: Between Creative Writing, Place & History’. In writing a personal essay, I was given the opportunity to explore the historian’s motivations, their relationship with their subjects, and how we are often boxed in by public views of historians. I discussed how I came to my research on Richard III, and how chronic illness gave me a deeper understanding of how Richard III is discussed and represented. Some time after publication I received some emails insisting emotion has no place in history, proving my point.
